Question about the Card Dex. 3 of so many identical cards?

I'm trying to understand why there are so many cards that have 3 identical copies when in Master Set view. Empty slots seem to have indicators for Standard Set, Parallel Set, and possibly other variants according to the Key in the Card Dex information panel. But once I have three cards I don't see any distinction between them. What's the point of displaying them this way?

    Usually the background effects/style it's a bit different that is all.
