My favorite franchise isn't Nintendo(as you'll find out in another post that's coming soon). Yet if I MUST pick a Nintendo franchise that isn't Pokémon… well that's Zelda for me. Currently playing Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Online. Haven't played it in over 25 years so it's a real nostalgia jolt and the controls take time to adapt to a Switch Joycon layout. Sensitivity on the joycons is also more than I remember on the N64 controller so it's made certain parts kind of hard… notably the Shooting Gallery with Slingshot/Bow. Haven't made it to Gerudo Horse Archer range yet but I know that's going to be really difficult for me. Also have to look up the Hyrule Field Big Poe's, which along with my inconsistent/poor aim are going to be really hard to get the 4th Bottle. Took like 5 tries but I did manage to get the Heart Piece from racing Dampé.

Never heard of it but for me, it'd probably be Starcraft. The amount of time I've spent on that RTS is incalculable. This is before Activision mind you… what Blizzard has become thanks to Activision… ugh. Their Diablo and Warcraft franchises are pretty good too but again… before Activision. Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 are solid(D2 Resurrected is basically a graphical overlay/update) but D3 and especially D4… hot garbage. With respect to Warcraft, they've largely been spared but WoW is not so lucky(not that I've played it but I know its nothing like it was back in the old days… hence why they have Classic servers).

If anyone wants to do Starcraft 2 or Diablo 2 Resurrected stuff, lmk. I'm barely active on either of them and haven't done Ladder on D2r in a long time.

For one that’s not dead, Metroid.

For one that definitely is dead, F-Zero

Back in my secondary school days I was really into Super Smash Bros. Melee. All of my friends were. Every weekend we'd gather to play it. I didn't really like Brawl and I never owned a Wii U, but I have dabbled in the Switch version.

Mario Kart has been a pretty consistent pick for go to party game, but I do not play it avidly enough to really be a fan of it.

Zelda would have been a solid answer, but honestly the last Zelda game I liked was Wind Waker. I used to play through Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask every year, but my interest dropped off around the Wii era. Twilight Princess was ruined by waggle, but fortunately there was a Gamecube version.

Metroid might also have been a solid pick. I loved the Prime series on the Gamecube, and I played the earlier titles after I moved to Japan. Dread was good, but Prime 4 seems very disappointing from what I've seen and heard.

Generally I am pretty disappointed with Nintendo franchises across the board right now. I think they do their best work when they are on the back foot. The underdog in the market. When they feel they have to work to impress their customers and earn their place.

The Wii U and the 3DS followed the massive successes of the Wii and the DS, and Nintendo seemed to be under the impression that they could sell anything and charge anything for it. Both consoles had mediocre starts and it took a massive price cut for the 3DS to recover lost ground. The Wii U never recovered.

It was under these circumstances that we got the success of the Switch, and so Nintendo felt confident they could give us the Switch 2 at any price. They seem to have more or less gotten away with it for now, but I see growing resentment regarding their business practices and the quality of their recent games, although we might not see it reflected in sales until the release of a Switch 2 revision, or even a Switch 3.

Just because you like something and know about it doesn't mean you can just expect other people to know it
