Milotic EX & Crustle glitch?

I was playing a Greninja deck against a Milotic EX and Crustle deck. He set up his Milotic in the active with a hero’s cape, and Crustle on the bench. I used 2x Dusknoir cursed blasts on Milotic and no damage was placed. I also attacked with a Pidgeot and Budew, none of the damage stuck. Did I miss something? I know I can’t attack with Greninja, and I know I can’t hit Crustle with an EX..
