Started a Pokemon Scarlet/Violet Soul-link

For those that don't know, there's many ways to do a nuzlocke challenge.

The Kaizo iron-mon challenge for the truly mad or challenge seeking trainers (look it up, it's absolute madness…if you manage to do it, I will bow to your greatness)

The Ash Ketchum run where you must have a pikachu in your party but if it faints 3 times, it counts as a Game over and you must start a new file

The zombie-locke where you can use revives on fallen pokemon but at a terrible cost

And recently, I discovered the Soul-link nuzlocke, a nuzlocke with a very very unique rule. It is a multiplayer nuzlocke challenge so you can have 2-4 people doing a game run with you

The unique ruling though is every pokemon each player catches in the new routes must be different and is SOUL-LINKED…they all share the same life. If one gets KOed, the other players' soul-linked pokemon fall with it

Me and a friend have started a soul-link in Scarlet/Violet…of course my friend not thinking, runs and triggers a fight with Nemona and her terrastallized Pawmi (it's supposed to be a tutorial fight but he had ended up catching an azurill to go with his quaxly)

In discord, I just hear "Zero, I am so sorry…"

Luckily it wasn't our starters who bit the dust but our first catches as Nemona's terrastillized Pawmi critically hits his Azurill with a super effective thunder shock, sending the poor water mouse and my unlucky Igglybuff to the boxes

That is the risk of a soul-link, each player carries the weight of the team

    This seems fun!

I always thought you needed special versions of the game to do these

Is a nuzlock just a profile with a unique set of rules?

If so, then I have one where it was supposed to be I'm only allowed to catch the six Pokémon I want to use, Shinies being the only exception. Those are too rare not to catch. (I've only found one from a random den)

I broke that rule when I found Zorua and Impidimp (I'm a huge fan of their final evolutions)

I caught them but I can't use them, sticking with the six I first caught and I haven't caught anything else since

My team is Meowscarada, Ceruledge, Ampharos, Talonflame, Gardevoir, and Gallade

I did it on a profile that I started for my little sister a while back

She tries to like Pokémon but she doesn't

She only made it to the choosing a starter, which was Sprigatito

I would have went Quaxly, but if I'm being honest I'm pretty thankful for Meowscarada

That thing has carried the team I don't know how many times

Anyways, knowing this was what I was doing, I left a spot in my team open all the way until I found a Charcadet

I made sure I would have a Ceruledge

I caught to Ralts off different genders just because

They were not in my team plans

Ampharos is actually pretty weak, which I was not expecting

I was iffy if I made the right decision when I caught Flechinder but I am happy with the choice now

I still need to finish it

I'm at Arven, Director Clavel, and Elite Four battles

I'm almost done but got bored

    Anyways, sorry for ranting

    Back to the first topic

What nuzlock would you say it's hardest and what are the rules?

It can't be a multiplayered one, though

    It's just me

the hardest challenge ever is the Kaizo Ironmon challenge…a staggering 97% failure rate

Rule #1: One pokemon, one shot-that's right, you may have 2 pokemon but only one of them may battle, the other is for HM use only....if your #1 pokemon is defeated twice at any point, GAME OVER....you are allowed 1 revive

Rule #2: One catch, no upgrades-you can catch ONE pokemon per new route and it can NOT be stronger then your first pokemon, meaning it must be equal or lower then your first pokemon and once you catch this new pokemon, you must decide who stays and who goes

Rule #3: The 500s club only-your main pokemon can NOT have a total base stat of 600, say goodbye to those pseudo legendaries

Rule #4: Grinding grinds the gears-grinding for exp on wild pokemon is FORBIDDEN

Rule #5: No one likes a cheater-certain held items are banned from use

Rule #6: Medicare is no longer a thing-healing outside of battle is banned, potions and such can only be used during battles

Rule #7: Gym trainers are people too-you must defeat ALL gym trainers before attempting a gym leader

Rule #8: Finish what you start-once you start a building or hideout, you must finish it

There are other variations of the Ironmon challenge that are even more difficult, but this is the most basic one that still runs pro trainers mad

Complete this challenge and you would have earned the right to call yourself the very best like no one ever was

    Mmm...

You said I can't go around beating wild Pokémon for Exp

But if I do it for, say, 10 Sinistea chips is that okay?

    @Hades0918

A Nuzlocke is a challenge where the basic rules are:

Only catch the first Pokémon you meet in an area (for example, if you walk into the grass in route 202 for the first time in the challenge and the first thing you find is a Bidoof, you're only allowed to catch that one. No searching for a Shinx instead or catching/encountering multiple Bidoof to get a better nature. If it faints or you run away from that first Bidoof, no route 202 catch for you).

If a Pokémon faints, it's gone forever. Release it or throw it into a box with only lost Pokémon. You can revive, but that's not a real Nuzlocke (that doesn't mean it's wrong to do— it's just a different kind of challenge). If all six of your Pokémon faint, there are two options based on which you prefer— consider the challenge over with a failure, or use the living Pokémon in your box.

You must nickname all of your Pokémon. It's not as strict a rule as the others, and it would still be a Nuzlocke without it, but it makes you get more attached to a Pokémon so it hurts more if you lose it.

A common extra rule is no duplicate Pokémon (Which means no getting a billion Bidoof and never getting anything other than it and your starter, but you also can't hope for a second Shinx somewhere if your Luxio faints). Though it's not one of the three main Nuzlocke rules, it's not as fun without it. The best part of Nuzlockes, in my opinion, is using Pokémon you'd never thought you'd use otherwise, and getting a billion Bidoof would ruin that fun.

You can change or add to the rules however you want and do the challenge however you want. Most people like adding rules that make it harder (monotype, no Exp. Share/Candies, no healing, etc.), but there's nothing wrong with liking to do the basic or even an easier version. Not everyone wants a challenge, sometimes people just want to have fun playing a game differently from how it was intended.

    I'd aim for Starly, personally

Anyways, good to know the basics

I am Exp Sharing and Candies

I would go crazy without them

I usually nickname my Pokémon, so that goes perfect for me

I think the no revives seem fun

But I know I'll be furious when my good ones go

I'm gonna try something like this later!
