Additional Information on the December 4 Update
Today, we are sharing detailed information regarding the December 4 update, including major changes to the ranking system.
1. Major changes to the ranking system
A. Rank progression will change to a gauge
The way players rise through the ranks will change to a gauge system, in which players battle to earn rank points to increase their rank point gauge.
- From Beginner rank to Ultra rank
- Ranks are subdivided into classes, and the player’s progress in each rank class will be shown on a rank point gauge. The player will receive rank points based on the results of ranked matches, and those rank points will go toward the rank point gauge. If the rank point gauge becomes full, the player’s rank class increases. If the rank point gauge becomes less than zero, the player’s rank class decreases. If the player advances past the highest class for their rank, their rank itself will increase, and their class will become the lowest class for their new rank.
- Master rank
- Master rank will remain the same, with a Master rank rating instead of a gauge. Players will compete within Master rank based on their rating.
To participate in a ranked match, players must use rank points. The higher the rank, the more rank points are required. After a ranked match, the results screen will show the player’s rank point gauge and the rank points gained from the battle.
B. Performance-based rank points
In addition to rank points gained or lost by winning or losing a match, players will also be able to earn rank points based on their performance in battle.
Here are some of the ways to earn a title on your team—as well as performance-based rank points:
- Get the most KOs
- Take the most damage
- Interrupted the most goals
- Land the most critical hits
- Pick up the most Berries
With the addition of performance-based titles and rank points, no matter which role a player fills on their team, their contributions will be rewarded.
C. The addition of the new Legend rank
A new rank higher than Master rank—Legend—has been added.
Once a player reaches a certain Master rank rating, they will be promoted to Legend. Even after players reach Legend, they will still return to Master if their rating drops below a certain point. Legend-rank players will be given matchmaking priority against each other, so only the truly top players will be able to reach and maintain their rank.
2. Changes to related systems
A. Changes to rank protection cards
To accompany the changes above, rank protection cards will be replaced by rank point protection cards, which will allow players to avoid using rank points when participating in a ranked match.
The rank reset for the transition to Series 32 on December 4 will follow the same general reduction pattern as previous series.
With this update, we aim to make ranked matches more enjoyable for all. The new rank point gauge should allow players’ efforts in every battle to add up, and players’ performance in battle will be rewarded with extra rank points. We believe this will give players a greater sense of accomplishment. What’s more, the new highest rank—Legend—has been added. It’s the perfect stage for top players to compete at.
We hope you enjoy this new system!
