Mega Gengar ex Updates (Maintenance Notice - 10/24/25)
Trainers, thank you for your patience as we investigated emergent issues with the Mega Gengar ex (PFL #056) card recently introduced to Pokémon TCG Live as part of the Mega Battle Deck—Mega Gengar ex. Given the severity of impact, we have made the decision to immediately deploy fixes to preserve competitive integrity over the weekend.
As a result, Pokémon TCG Live will undergo maintenance tonight, Friday, October 24, to address these issues. The game will be offline starting at 5 PM PT (October 25, 00:00 UTC) and is estimated to be down for 3 hours.
Please see below for the list of changes:
Cards
- Mega Gengar ex's (PFL #056) “Shadowy Concealment” Ability's Prize card manipulation effect incorrectly stacks when multiple of the same card are in play.
- Mega Gengar ex's (PFL #056) “Shadowy Concealment” Ability incorrectly activates when Pokémon are knocked out by effects other than damage from an attack.
Common Questions
What is happening? What if I'm already in a game when downtime begins?
At 5 PM PT (October 25, 00:00 UTC), Pokémon TCG Live will undergo maintenance, and the game client will be locked to new players. Players not in a match will receive a popup asking them to restart their client, and the game will become inaccessible. Active matches will be given some time to complete, after which players will receive the same message asking them to restart their game client.
Will Mega Gengar ex still be playable after these fixes?
Yes, but the card will correctly adhere to the rules as originally intended.
Why are select Mega Evolution—Phantasmal Flames cards playable when they’re not yet competition-legal?
Pokémon TCG Live supports a variety of Pokémon TCG products, and from time to time some products become available prior to their associated set release. Because Pokémon TCG Live’s Standard mode utilizes regulation marks to determine whether cards can be played, these cards are able to be used before they become legal for event play.
How can competitive players practice for events when there are new cards in the mix?
Right now, we recommend using friend matches. We hear the community’s feedback that Pokémon TCG Live is playing an increasingly important role in tournament preparation, and we are having internal discussions about creative ways we can better support our competitive community in these situations moving forward. We appreciate your feedback and continued patience as we work out the best way to support new cards and slower-moving rule changes at the same time.
