Get Ready for a Legendary Update: Theia Sky Ruins (Groudon)!

A massive update is heading to the Theia Sky Ruins on September 4th!
The battlefield is transforming, bringing the legendary Pokémon Groudon to the forefront of the action.
Starting September 4th, Ranked Matches will take place on the new Theia Sky Ruins (Groudon) map. The previous version, Theia Sky Ruins (Rayquaza), will still be available for thrilling battles in Standard and Custom Matches.
Here’s what’s coming in this update!
Update Details
A New Legend Rises: Groudon Replaces Rayquaza!
- At the 2-minute mark, the mighty Groudon will now appear in the central area instead of Rayquaza.
- Defeating Groudon grants your entire team a powerful buff: a massive boost to goal-scoring speed, increased damage, and a formidable shield!
- This effect lasts until your Pokémon is knocked out.
- But beware! If a Pokémon with this buff is KO'd, the opponent who delivered the final blow steals the effect for themselves!
- We expect this to create heart-pounding, unpredictable battles where the tables can turn at any moment. Fight to the very end to reclaim the buff and seize victory!
Wild Pokémon Spawns Have Evolved!
- We're changing the timing and placement of wild Pokémon in the early game.
- Get ready for more intense skirmishes on the top path right from the start! The bottom path will offer more stable opportunities to level up, but you'll still need to battle for control.
- We've also made changes to encourage Pokémon on both paths to be more active across the map early on. Expect dynamic new strategies to unfold from the very beginning!
A New Battlefield Layout: Tall Grass Changes!
- We've reshaped and removed some areas of tall grass.
- Overall, the map will have less tall grass, providing better visibility than the original Theia Sky Ruins.
- We can't wait to see how this impacts central area routes and which Pokémon shine in major team fights!
Mid-Game Mayhem: Regidrago Arrives!
- After a certain amount of time has passed, Regidrago will now appear in the central area.
- The Pokémon that defeats Regidrago will gain a temporary buff that increases their goal-scoring speed.
- This new objective is sure to shake up the mid-game, breaking stalemates and creating exciting new scoring opportunities!
- Once Regidrago is defeated, either Regidrago will respawn again, or a swarm of Altaria and Swablu will appear in its place!
The Regis Are on the Move!
- At the 3-minute mark, the Legendary giants will appear on the top and bottom paths.
- Previously, Regieleki always appeared at the top. Now, on the Groudon map, the spawn locations for Regieleki, Registeel, Regice, and Regirock will be randomized in each match!
- After their initial appearance, they will continue to respawn in the same location for the rest of the match.
- Your team's ability to adapt on the fly will be the key to victory. Which path will you prioritize?
Goal Zone Score Adjustments
- We've noticed a trend where teams often prioritize the bottom front goal zone due to its strategic advantage leading into the Final Stretch.
- While we believe different goal zones should have varying levels of impact, we are adjusting the score required to break them. The top front goal will now require less score to break, while the bottom front goal will require more.
Unite License Update: Changes for Mewtwo
Get ready! More Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution are scheduled to join the battle! These Pokémon will have their specific Mega Stone set as a fixed Held Item.
In line with this, starting September 4th, Mewtwo (X) and Mewtwo (Y) will also have Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y set as a fixed Held Item, respectively.
Please Note: This item will automatically overwrite the Held Item in your far-left slot when you select Mewtwo. Be sure to check your loadout before battle!
Additionally, Mewtwo (X) and Mewtwo (Y) will now be treated as separate Unite Licenses. This means they can be selected on the same team, and if one is banned in a draft, the other can still be chosen!
