I probably wouldn't get it due in large part to how BDSP turned out. If they did a better job on BDSP, then I might hold a different opinion, but HG/SS is considered to be the best "remake" of a Pokémon game to date, and I don't want the memory of such a remake to be tainted by their recent track record. It's true that Johto can use a Gen 6+ update, but I think until they can prove otherwise, it's best to leave Johto as is.
Then again, they did have the opportunity to give us a Johto game years ago when they were making Let's GO Pikachu/Eevee. When making the Pokemon Yellow "remaster", they could have added Johto as a post-game region and consequently all the Johto Pokémon and Evolutions that came from the Gen 2 games. If they did, players could experience a reverse Gold/Silver and hence face Faulkner with a Pidgeot(just like in the Anime), Bugsy with a much stronger Scyther(or Scizor), Whitney with a much stronger Devil Cow and other Normal Types to compliment it, Morty with more than just the Gengar line(Mismagius and Alolan Marowak are a couple options), Chuck with more Fighting Types, Jasmine with a full array of Steel types(Scizor, Magnezone, Alolan Dugtrio, Alolan Sandslash), Pryce with fully evolved and tough Ice Types(like Mamoswine; Alolan Ninetales would be scary though) and Clair with more Dragon types with perhaps something to counter Fairy types. Then when going to challenge the Johto E4, the E4 would update to be Koga, Karen, Bruno and Will with Gold as the surprise Johto Champion.

an original johto remake? They did. Fire red and leaf green. I didnt care for them. I still enjoy pokemon yellow from time to time. But i always wanted an first person, open world version of johto league. Someone was working on a first person gold years ago. No idea what happened to it. If it ever got finished. But a true original 151 with first person, and encountering wild pokemon in an open world, and when you battle you actually control the pokemon would be perfect.

You do know that Fire Red/Leaf Green is Kanto and not Johto right? Johto is Gold/Silver or Heart Gold/Soul Silver and starts in Johto region before going to Kanto in the post-game since Kanto is right next door geographically.

HGSS already set the high bar for a remake. It would be hard to live up to.
As with any potential remake these days, I am afraid it would receive the BDSP treatment. Strip out the extra content, make exp. share (and probably shift battle style) mandatory without rebalancing the game, chibi art style and preserve all of the bugs, while potentially adding new ones.
I feel Johto has such a strong and distinctly Japanese aesthetic, they would do a disservice to give it the BDSP art style.
A remake that used the better parts of SwSh's world and character design but with the Johto style, while including all the Crystal and HGSS content and not making Exp. Share and shift battles mandatory... now that would be appealing. Pokémon should follow you properly, too. Not this "let's go" half measure.
