My life as a gym leader-part 5 When It Comes To Relationships...
Today, I think I finally broke past the blockade that kept me from having any sort of relationships with others. Because in case you haven't figured it out yet, I kind of have trouble showing emotion. I guess it's because I hardly feel anything anymore. Nothing really makes me happy, it just lowers the amount of disappointment I'm feeling. I know I feel lonely, especially whenever everyone is talking, and having fun with each other and I'm just sitting there. Excluded…
Ever since I met him, me and Calem have kind of been enemys. But today Calem, became my friend. Let me tell you how. A couple of days ago, I was just sitting there on my holocaster, reading about Pokemon who can help find firewood in an attempt to impress Shauna.
By the way, since long before I met Shauna or any of the others, Shauna has had nicknames for everybody and she finally just gave me one! I'm proud to announce that my new nickname is… Squagly Waam! Or just Squagly. I think she calls me that because when she met me all my Pokemon were Bug types as well as Poison types. Besides that we haven't really talked much. I thought since we were "Rivals" now that would mean we would talk more, and I guess we sort of do… We talk a lot more than before our little adventure but it doesn't feel like we talk enough. We do have a good battle everyday, so that seems to brighten my mood!
Anyways, I was looking up Pokemon on my holocaster that can help find and carry firewood and I found a Pokemon that looked like a bigger stronger, version of Calems Phantump. It said it was called Trevenant, and that it EVOLVES from Phantump! If Calems Phantump ever evolved into a Trevenant, it could basically make trees materialize and that would be the end of my firewood collecting dreams…
But it also said something else about Phantump evolving. It said that it only evolves when TRADED to another Pokemon Trainer! I thought for a moment about what Pokemon I could trade for his Phantump to get it to evolve. My Whirlipede and Beedrill are both special to me but my Pumpkaboo I caught earlier! Hes basically useless! I could trade him his Phantump for my Pumpkaboo and then I'd be the one Shauna likes!
The scheme was brilliant! All that was left was to carry it out. When I proposed the idea to Calem he accepted! I knew something was up when he fell for it that easily! After we traded, just like the holocaster said, Phantump evolved into Trevenant! But also, Calems new Pumpkaboo evolved into Gorgeist!
I probably should have read the full article about trade evolutions on the holocaster. If I did, I would have known that when Pumpkaboo is traded, it evolves, just like Phantump. And the worst part of it all, was that after Gourgeist evolved, Shauna seemed so in love with it! Sure I can collect a lot more firewood with Treavenant but it kind of seems obsolete now.
It was about this point when we decided that it would be faster to just head to Coraway Town and take the train all the way down to Lumiose City. The next morning, I was bitter at Calem all day. And it only made it worse that he wasn't even mad at me for trying to scam him out of his Treavenant! I had to do something! So while everyone was still asleep, I zipped his sleeping bag up while he was still in it and dragged it out to the middle of the forest while he was still asleep!
I know it was a cruel trick, but he'll never know it was me… And besides he deserved it anyways. I don't know why, but from the moment I met him, Calem has devoted his life to making mine as horrible as possible. The only reason I could figure is that he's mad at me for intruding on him and his friends. I know we are all supposed to be allies, but I think I've just completely given up on him. I don't know how anyone could be friends with a pest like him!
When Calem finally found his way out of the forest it was already almost afternoon! It was absolutely hilarious watching him stumble out of the forest in his pajamas with a twig sticking out of his hair! He was so mad! I think he suspected it was me, but for some reason, he just let it slide. For the whole rest of the day, Me and Calem couldn't stand each other!
It was the day after, that I finally lost it. He somehow knew that I liked Shauna and was using that against me! When I saw him hanging out with Shauna I challenged him to a battle out of rage! Everybody tried to stop me except Serena. She was invested and wanted to see how the battle would go. You know shes into drama and Pokemon battles, and this was a combination of the two. It was only a one on one Pokemon battle between me and him with me using Trevanant and Him using Gourgeist. There was no Mega Evolution or other Pokemon used because it was so tense that even our Pokemon could feel it. Then, the end of the battle came to an abrupt end as my Pokemon were pummeled in the most humiliating way.
To be honest, there was no way I was winning that battle. The defeat was so crushing, that after I lost, I started to yell at Calem. It was not my brightest moment. I don't even remember what I said cause it all just happened so fast. I'm pretty sure I said something about him trying to make my life as miserable as possible and him trying to get between me and everybody else. And he just stood there and took it. He didn't even respond or fight back. He looked like he was about to say something a couple times, but he decided not to. When I was finished yelling at him, he looked like he was about to cry. He was about to say something but he decided not to, instead he just walked off.
The entire rest of the day, nobody said a word about it except Tierno. We were all sitting by the campfire and one by one, everybody went off to bed until it was just me and him. That's when I said something about Calem and Shauna together constantly. Then Tierno told me the whole story about him and them.
Tierno Has known Calem almost his whole life and since he's known him he remembers the day he started his Pokemon Journey, which also so happens to be the same day that he met Shauna. She came to his door and invited him on a Pokemon Journey. From there, they only grew closer. They picked their starter Pokemon together, they had their first battle against each other, they helped save the world from Team Flare together, eventually they decided to pursue a relationship together. They were so happy together! And their love for each other grew and grew until Calem beat all 8 gym leaders and it was finally time for him to challenge the Pokemon league! It was the toughest battle of his life, but he finally beat it. It was then that the whole parade happened that was on TV where I first noticed Shauna and all of them. But it was the morning after the parade, that Shauna came to Calems door, in his highest moment, and told him that she didn't want to be his girlfriend anymore.
He was devastated. He didn't let on though. He wanted to stay friends with her, his entire life so he agreed to break up the relationship even though he hated the idea, just to stay friends with her. Tierno also told me one other secret about Calem. Since Shauna is no longer an option, he's set his sights on Serena!
I never felt so relieved and horrible at the same time! Relieved that Calem wasn't after Shauna after all! But horrible because of the way I treated Calem after knowing his history with her. How could I be so mean to him?! These people are basically his family and I'm forcing my way in! He's known these people his entire life and I just met them like a week ago, and somehow I managed to cause loads of discord already! I guess there's only one thing left to do, and that's to apologize to Calem. It's not going to be easy, but it will probably make him feel a better, even if it does make me feel bad for a short time.
So I woke Calem up, said I was sorry, and his response shocked me! He actually forgave me! It felt so good knowing that he would no longer harbor resentment toward me! And also, he said we could become friends! I did not expect that! I thought he would hate me forever after what I did to him! He told me that he was so patient with me because he remembered when he first started his Pokemon Journey! He remembered moving to a new region, having new friends, wanting to get closer with them. He also remembered his first crush, Shauna, And all the crazy things he did for her. But he also told me how bad it hurt after she broke up with him, but how he got over it by going for Serena instead. He told me that maybe she might feel differently about me though. He said that I "Had a decent shot". And the last thing he told me was that there was no way he would trade his Gourgiest back! It's his one last attempt at winning her over.
After all that, I still felt kind of bad, so to end the whole rivalry, I somehow set up Calem with Serena using my unparalleled intellect. They never knew it was me because I left them both letters saying that they were from each other telling them to meet someplace. Eventually they'll find out it was me who set them up, but for the time being, I am the ultimate mastermind! I think their date went well because whenever they came back, they were both smiling and holding hands!
I think I have finally got some decent friends out of this whole misadventure. The friends that I wished I could have my entire life but were just barely out of reach. But there's only one problem now. What happens after we get to Lumiose City? Everyone will probably go their separate ways and leave me in the dust. But that's not for a while. I've got time…
