I vote for neither since the most "basic" type is the Normal type. Does x1 against everything but Rock(x1/2), Steel(x1/2) and Ghost(x0) and takes x2 from Fighting. A type that has no Offensive advantage is the definition of basic. Yet if I must vote for the Fire/Water/Grass triangle, I'll take Water. Has the fewest vulnerabilities with the means to counter them via coverage.
