Ancient Energy Booster- Why?

Greetings, I'll try to keep things succinct;

Of late, that is say the last two or three days, I've noticed an increasing number of people fielding decks with no ancient pokemon, but with Ancient Energy Boosters that they attach to cards that don't benefit. The game itself does not register there being any positive effect either. Is there something I've missed here, because I can't figure it out.

    There used to exist a daily quest that required players to attach tools, not sure it still exists, but if it does probably they randomly attach it to complete a daily quest?
    I've done it before to finnish that quest so wouldn't be surprised if others did the same. I'm just not sure if the quest was replaced now, can't recall the last time I got that daily quest.

    Afaik that quest isn't in rotation now so yeah, still don't get it lol. Also just, better, more effective items to use- especially in ranked matches.
