EX cards and versus

They should have to play the base card before the EX card because it just makes more sense. It keeps the game balanced and adds some strategy instead of everyone just dropping the strongest card right away. This way, players actually have to build up to their big moves, which makes the game more fun and fair for everyone.

This overall eliminates the factor of everyone just playing the meta decks all the time like celebi, or mew/ mewtwo etc….

just a thought to make versus a little bit more strategic, what’s everyone else’s thoughts?

What you mean by base cards? Pokemon ex are part of the base set… TCG Pocket it's not suppose to be too strategic, for that people should play the original Pokemon TCG. In fact as far as i know Pocket was initially intended to be mostly focus on the card collection and the battles would be just kind of a mini-game (there isn't even a simple way to battle friends because that wasn't the focus).

TCG Pocket it's a simplified version of that original TCG, so it's supposed to be a more casual luck based and also focus on the collection part of the game.

Also you have to understand the game it's very new, more "complex/strategic" stuff is coming like Tool trainner cards, more Supporters and Items, that will make the game more interesting but never close to the complexity of the original TCG because that's not the goal.

Btw if you think ex Pokemon unbalance the game you should check the VMax era (3 "points" if KO)…
And no, makes no sense not having ex Pokemon in the main game format. What could make sense would be to have an additional new game mode with only "single-point" cards allowed (but keeping the main format separated as it is).

as with anything in the history of humanity the goal is to make lots of money. The game could be improved yes but they want people to feel like they NEED the big ex cards to keep up and buy a ton of packs.

What I mean by base card is their non ex- variant, I know they are considered apart of the base set. I’m just saying you should have to play their non ex version first then play the ex version and if they are worried about the amount they could overall raise the deck limit to 25 or something. It was just a suggestion or thing that I personally think would make the game more fun although it is based off collection doing the events for versus is grueling because everyone just starts plays their ex and then it’s over in like 2 turns if you also can’t pull out a ex card or something just as strong to one shot theirs. Like I said however it’s still a great variant of the original game but it could always be better and improving. I’m going to continue playing either way. It was just a matter of curiosity to see whatever one else thought on the matter.

Their ultimate goal it's to make money, but as you know TCG Pocket it's based on an old big game called the Pokemon TCG… so ex Pokemon aren't a thing they just came up to get money… ex Pokemon exist in the original game and are a fundamental part of the game main format, that's the reason they have ex in the TCG Pocket.
They didn't want to make an extremely different game, in fact they tried to make Pocket a simplified version of the original but as close as possible to it, because they wanted to not only attract new players but also to bring in part of the giant existing Pokemon TCG player base.

They knew the giant success the original Pokemon TCG was/is so changing TCG Pocket too much away from it would be a big risk they didn't need to take… and the result is this huge success, Pocket couldn't ask much more than this.

With all this I'm just trying to explain why things are as they are… in summary ex Pokemon aren't there because of money, they are a fundamental part of the Pokemon TCG… as VMax were, or GX, or EX (capital letter), or older ex, and other "2-point" and "3-point" Pokemon… not having ex would be an unnecessary risk… they were obviously smart enough to see that.

Of course in the future they can improve the game and add a "no ex" format, etc. but for now with only 2 months or so after the release the game it's in a great spot as money goes and also just check the huge online Pocket tournaments (several with more than 1k players), they did a good job… for now give them time, we will see if they listen to the players requests and add more game formats, ranked mode, trade, and so on.

Thanks for the response mate, it’s been a huge success so far, I just hope they improve it in the right ways and not the wrong ones. Also maybe I’m a little salty because everyone is playing the new meta celebi deck online and it’s just annoying lol. I'm excited to what they do with it in the future regardless. Cheers!

I do that all the time, and whenever my Execute is first I always have an Exeggutor ex in my hand with 1 Grass Energy for Tropical Swing… you can’t stop that happening 🤣
