Pokemon Unite Ranking fix

I'm super confused about the ranking system. It's so punishing and it's drives me wild.
Why when you hit master, you get dropped to Ultra 5 the following season??? Then you get stuck with people that are basically wasting time and I get punished for others performance being lacking. Why not drop masters to Ultra 1 instead so the push to get back into masters isn't more difficult than it should be or not at all..
Am I the only one with this?
