Pokémon might be the exception as far as the big three in the west are concerned. Generally children's card games are too complicated and expensive for children to play.
Here in Japan its a little different. There are a lot of TCGs that stick around for years and games like Duel Masters are very popular with young children. I see lots of kids for Pokémon events at my LGS, but with every card game when it comes to competitive play it is always dominated by adults. Players of all ages come together for Pokémon.
But who cares anyway? You are not hurting anyone by playing a card game. I think a good rule for life in general is if you are not causing anyone else harm, just do what makes you happy.

I don’t have enough money to play in official tournaments with irl legit cards (not local, nowhere for the next 5 miles has an official play! Pokemon venue for me to play in). That’s why I play TCG live, it’s completely free to play, and you can play it with anyone! pssst, Pokemon! I’m doing you a favour here!
