today i learned Zygarde Complete is an Alola pokemon. It must not have been in XY. How many of you know this?

I knew, all Zygarde formes other than 50% are Alolan Pokémon. Magearna is also an Alolan Pokémon. They were going to be in Pokémon Z, but since GameFreak was busy with SM, they ended up scrapping Pokémon Z and adding the Pokémon they wanted to add in it and probably some other things (the Zygarde cube was probably going to be part of the story in Pokémon Z) to SM. It's a big part of why people say XY was unfinished, since Zygarde, the third box Legendary of XY, was in a random cave with no explanation, story, or anything at all.
Also did you know that Azumarill's tail glows? I just learned that today while using Pokémon refresh in USUM.

@UnovanZorua Zygarde has always felt like a weird afterthought.
I think Gamefreak have been trying to recapture that feeling of encountering Mewtwo in the gen 1 post-game with a legendary encounter throughout the franchise's history. In many ways the entire series has been about trying to recreate gen 1's success.
It wasn't successful with Zygarde. For one thing Zygarde was overshadowed by Mewtwo himself hiding in his own cave, as part of Gamefreak's gen 1 pandering plan to get millennials to buy 3DSs.
But also it is difficult to do a surprise post-game encounter these days, partly because everyone expects it now and partly because the games are spoiled before they even release.
I would say they have more success when they tease and feature the post-game legendary in the main game, rather than have it be a complete surprise.
Giratina was upgraded from the latter to the former when Platinum came out, and I think it served to cement it in people's minds. It might have become a Zygarde itself were it not for that fact.
The Swords of Justice and Kami trios also feel a little forgettable because they are dropped out of nowhere, in addition to being yet more legendaries added to a roster that already felt bloated in gen 4.
I can see what they were trying to do with Zygarde in SM, making the cell hunt a constant quest throughout the game. But Zygarde felt like a detached part of XY rather than a core part of SM. It felt like wasting time on a last-gen idea rather than an exciting new part of the current gen.
This was compounded by the fact that a lot of people find collectable hunts boring.
Perhaps Z-A will give Zygarde a chance to shine. Maybe it will be at the core of the game's story, and will become a beloved and iconic legendary rather than an afterthought.
Or maybe it will have to wait for the XY remakes, if they don't get Ilca'd again.
