Bulbasaur ends up defeating Brock and Misty easily, and once you get to Lt Surge, you’ll have other Pokemon to assist you.2 -

I started with Squirtle. It's possible to get past Brock with a Charmander, but you have to level it up to at least 12-13 and have other Pokemon on your team.2 -

Personally my favorite starter is either Bulbasaur or Squirtle for getting past the early on gym leaders. I love Charmander as well but it is always difficult to get past Brock's Rock type gym. …2 -
