I don't believe so. If you wake up and have lost connection, it will restart the app and when loading in it tells you that it failed to upload data and will try again. I found this out this morning when the game had to relaunch for an update, so your unsaved sleep data can persist between app versions too.

There's a "mixed" style which you can get if you have a mix of all three styles. Every time I've fallen asleep with something playing in the background I've gotten mixed style, so that may be something to try. I believe you can get pokemon from all styles that way.

Are you creating a deck for the standard format? If so, you won't be able to access expanded cards. You need to set your ranked ladder to expanded from the home screen to be able to make an expanded deck. The cards you're trying to use have rotated out of the standard format, so they are only playable in expanded.

If you go into the deck list and select "all decks" at the top it should be listed in there. If not, and if your previous comment about not having the cards in your collection is true, you should probably contact support with the code you redeemed in your ticket.

By completely free do you mean having an absence of paid elements? Becuase yes, games like that do exist. I'll admit the majority are just free to play, like TCGL is a roundabout advertisement of physical products (redeem codes) in the same way TCGO was, but completely free games do exist.

Are you sure they weren't using raging claws instead? It does 30 + 10 for each damage counter on Arcanine, meaning if you hit them for 220 it would do the same damage as bright flame the following turn.

There is an abundance of free games with story modes available today. I don't think we'll get anything like the old TCG game boy game, but what TCGO had is reasonable to expect.

Galar would make for an interesting one, the whole darkest day story would be good to see as a legends game.

Yes, those cards are still associated with your account so should transfer fine. For example I opened some older packs that aren't currently usable in game and got credits for duplicates, meaning the game recognises I have four of them already.
