Special Energy attachment ruling question.

Will special energy that says it can only be attached to a certain type of Pokemon be able to be attached to a colorless Pokemon? Like Speed Energy to a Pidgey? AND would it do it's special effect of draw 2 cards or just count as an energy?

Can I get a confirm on this from someone official? When they came out in PTCGO they were able to attach to my colorless Pokemon, but I thought it might have been an unintentional bug in the game that let that happen at the time.

You're right! I just got this response email from the Pokemon website.

Thank you for contacting Pokémon Support!

The specific energy cards that you mentioned can indeed be used by Pokemon in place of colorless energy. However, only Pokémon of the specific type related to the energy cards will be able to use the second function listed on the cards. For example, Horror Psychic Energy can provide Psychic energy to any Pokémon, but only Psychic Pokémon can use the second function listed on the card.

That said, there are some energy cards that can only be used by a specific type of Pokémon. For example, Rapid Strike Energy can only be used by Rapid Strike Pokémon, noted by the first section of the card's text.

As noted in the Pokemon TCG Rulebook, page 6, "Most of the time, Pokémon can’t attack without Energy cards! You’ll need to match the symbols of the attack cost to the Energy card, but any type of Energy can be used for Colorless energy."

When I did play PCTGO, it did actually apply the effect, too. which is why I was confused. It must have been a bug that got fixed then. But thank you for the response all the same DoubleCure; I wasn't sure that they would be able to respond for my game in time that has been on hold. :)
