Nah. Think what you want but I don’t think people “glaze over” something they like.

    They just like it.

Not to the fans. Lots of people like charizard. Just because one of those people likes charizard doesn’t mean they glaze over it. It’s just liked. 🤷‍♂️ just my opinion of course.

    Yup

I don't like the term glazing in general

    I don't do it

    I speak my mind

I believe Charizard is the best

    Not even for competitive reasons

I don't use it in my online battle teams (except ZA)

It is Actually pretty good competitive wise (Mega Y...) but not my style

    However, I love the design

    Yeah, it's basic

But to me it's super cool!

And Mega X is so awesome!

I've also always loved how it's portrayed

    Strong

    Competitive

    Brave

    Loyal

    Reliable

THAT'S the partner Pokémon I want

And yes, when I write Charizard I make it OP

    But that's just me writing

Realistically it's a decent mon, good at best

    But I still love it

    Char is my partner

I won't force anyone to love it but I always will

Charizard gets a lot of support for three reasons.

    1) Fire options are admittedly bad in Kanto. It pains me to say this given that Vulpix is my BPF(Best Pokémon Forever) but she and Growlithe come just before the 4th Gym(when you'd need them for Erika) and hence would require a grind session to get them up to speed and with the latest Gen 9 moveset don't learn Flamethrower until 32 and 40 respectively(Charmeleon learns it at 30 or earlier than both alternatives). Yet if we use Generation 1, it's slightly better for my Vulpix because she learns Flamethrower at 35 while Growlithe has to go all the way to level 50(yes level 50!) while it takes Charmander to level 38(42 for Charmeleon and 46 for Charizard). While Ninetales does have a Special advantage over Charizard in Gen 1, Ninetales movepool is inferior to Charizard and Charizard can double as a Flying type(notably in Yellow version). I don't even count Magmar because that thing comes way too late and Ponyta... Yeah that only got use in Sinnoh because it was literally the only option if you didn't go Chimchar(which is why that region is Chimchar or bust).

    2) Venusaur has no advantage over regional Electric Types. Short and to the point reason here but Kanto has no Water/Ground types to speak of and the Water/Rock fossils are never an opponent for you in a playthrough. Meaning an Electric Type does just as well as Venusaur, if not better because it deals x4 to Gyarados(which you DO face with Lance and Blue(if you have Squirtle or Bulbasaur as your starter)). Venusaur can salvage its spot with Sleep Powder, Leech Seed and Toxic but Hypnosis is just as effective and if we're looking for effective Sleep then Paras Spore is the winner here.

    3) Squirtle has insane Water type competition. Say what you will but Gen 1 has really good Water types. Gyarados(Gen 1 and Gen 4+), Lapras, Vaporeon, Starmie, Slowbro, and Tentacruel(especially in Gen 1). Even Cloyster, Dewgong and Golduck aren't slouches either. The only saving grace for Squirtle is that they can come rather late, but if you put in the time, you can have a Pseudo Water Dragon prior to Misty. I even forgot Seadra which if you can evolve into Kingdra would be one OP Water type.

So given that.. you pretty much have to default to Charmander for that reason. Yeah the early game is rough but they give you early game options: Nidoran(either) or Mankey for Brock while Pikachu, Butterfree, Beedrill and Paras counter Misty.
