Is it frowned on to use a Rare/expensive SIR in a causal deck?

Hello! Recently, I started playing the Pokémon TCG. As a young kid in the ’90s, I was always envious of the other kids who were able to play the game, since my family couldn’t afford the cards at the time. Well, now while I might not be able to buy a house, I am in a financial position to pick up the hobby.

I’ve started collecting cards, mostly buying bulk for cheap and picking up a pack here and there if I see one. I have also been playing Pokémon TCG Live to get familiar with the cards and game flow. I have started building a deck to play at my local card shop and I am even going to my first tournament that our local card shop host for beginners later this month, and I’m super excited for it!

Here is my dilemma: Today, I pulled a card I never thought I would—the Mega Darkrai EX SIR from a Pitch Black Booster Box. I’ve have seen on different short videos that people get excited for this one, so I knew that, for collectors, it’s on the more expensive side. After looking online, I saw that it’s just shy of $200 in Near Mint condition, which I think mine is since I just pulled it.

The thing is, on Pokémon TCG Live, I’ve have build a deck, where this is one of my heavy hitters. Now that I have one in real life, I want to build a deck around it to play.

My question is, given the card’s value, would it be frowned upon or make it difficult for me to fit in with the playing community if I include it in my deck?

I personally do not see an issue with running higher rarities in decks, but some may especially in a beginner environment. if this potential judgement bothers you, maybe get a deck box with a display window so you can still show it off while you play. Also I've personally seen decks in casual play with ~$1000+ in higher rarity cards so I don't think running a single $200 card will make you stand out too much.

Someone went to my local card store to buy a $700 card for their deck.

Playing with a rare card in your deck is one of the most fun things you can do! The only reason not to do it would be if you wanted to keep it in good condition.
