Journal Entry#18: Victory is within reach

Timestamp of 33 hours and 57 minutes. Five plus hours of grind is a lot but I've managed to get the final badge, defeat my rival for the 2nd to last time and evolves 6 Pokemon. I raised Weedle from level 7 to 10, evolving twice(no big investment here). I then evolve Doduo(level 22) into Dodrio(level 31), Psyduck(level 15) into Golduck(level 33), Ekans(level 7) into Arbok(level 22) and Meowth(level 7) into Persian(level 28). I also evolved my two Eevee into Jolteon and Vaporeon respectively. This now places me at 99/151.

Once I finished evolving those, my team had reached level 50 so I proceeded to grab the final badge. Butterfree opened against Dugtrio and KO'd it with two Psybeams. Swapped to Tauros for Persian where it demonstrates who the real Normal type king happens to be. I then swap to Lapras for Nidoqueen and Nidoking, tanking a Thunder attack from the King because Lapras apparently isn't fast enough with a 5 level difference in Nidoking's favor. His Ace in Rhydon doesn't stand a chance.

For Blue, I open with Lapras against Sandslash and OHKO. Against Exeggcute, Ninetales burns it to a crisp. Magneton is dug an early demise with Sandslash Dig. Tauros brute Strength rolls Kadabra and Magneton tanks a powerful Hydro Pump from Vaporeon to claim the W.

Am now at the entrance to Victory Road. Plan is to catch Moltres and make it to the Elite Four/Pokemon League entrance before beginning an unthinkable marathon of grinding for Dex completion purposes(so not looking forward to that). I hope to Ditto glitch catch Alakazam at some point and if I can, Porygon too since Id prefer not to spend 200k Poke to buy it from Rocket Game Corner(not taking the time to do the slots). Aside from that, it's just a matter of grinding XP for everyone in my boxes. Might take me 100 hours... No joke 😭

I'll post again with an update sometime soon.

Well it was only a matter of time but my internal battery finally bit the bullet(aka died). Got the infamous message that data was destroyed(meaning battery is bad). I knew it was going to happen but I was hoping it would happen after the run.

Was fun while it lasted. Will miss my Yellow version unless I spend the money and Solder on the new Battery.

    Nope, data is lost.

The "The file data is destroyed" message usually means the internal CR1616 battery inside your Pokémon Yellow cartridge is dead. Over time, the battery loses the charge needed to keep the save chip powered on. Your cartridge needs a battery replacement, after which it will be able to save again.

@Hades0918 Had my battery not died, this is what I had left to do. With Victory Road, id just roll through, grabbing Moltres along the way. Id then have to evolve everyone in my Boxes, Glitch catching Alakazam(via Ditto) once one of my Pokemon gets a Special stat of 149(Magneton would be the first one to possibly reach it) and then buy/glitch catch Porygon(need 170 Special or 9999 coins). When I hit 182-184 Special I can duplicate Rare Candies and other items. Until then, I have to evolve the old fashion way and a lot of my Pokemon are level 7 or less and will take a chunk of XP before they can even stand a chance at gaining XP on their own on Cycling Road.

Id have the following Pokemon to evolve:

    Ivysaur(level 20) → Venusaur(level 32)

    Charmander(level 10) → level 38(Flamethrower + evolve)→ Charizard(level 39)

    Squirtle(level 10) → Blastoise(level 36)

    Pidgey(level 6) → Pidgeot(level 36)

    Spearow(level 4) → level 29(Drill Peck + Evolution)

    Nidoran(Male + Female) → level 16(evolve) → level 23(Moon Stone x2, learn Thrash/Body Slam)

    Rattata(level 3) → Raticate(level 20)

    Clefairy(level 13) → level 31(Metronome + Moon Stone)

Jigglypuff(level 3) → level 34(Body Slam or level 39 for Double Edge + Moon Stone)

    Zubat(level 10) → Golbat(level 22)

    Oddish + Bellsprout(level 12) → level 33(Petal Dance/Razor Leaf + Evolution + Leaf Stone x2)

    Paras(level 13) → Parasect(level 24)

    Cubone(level 7) → Marowak(level 28)

    Venonat(level 16) → Venomoth(level 31)

    Diglett(level 20) → Dugtrio(level 26)

    Mankey(level 5) → Primeape(level 28)

    Poliwag(level 25) → level 31(Body Slam + Evolution + Water Stone)

    Tentacool(level 7) → Tentacruel(level 30)

    Geodude(level 10) → Graveler(level 26)

    Ponyta(level 28) → Rapidash(level 40)

    Slowpoke(level 7) → Slowbro(level 37)

    Seel(level 7) → Dewgong(level 34)

    Grimer(level 7) → Muk(level 38)

    Shellder(level 7) → level 50(Ice Beam + Water Stone)

    Growlithe(level 7) → level 50(Flamethrower + Fire Stone)

Gastly(level 21) → Haunter(level 25) ← was going to do that first with Rare Candies

    Drowzee(level 19) → Hypno(level 26)

    Krabby(level 15) → Kingler(level 28)

    Goldeen(level 30) → Speaking(level 33)

    Horsea(level 20) → Seadra(level 32)

Exeggcute(level 22) → level 28(Leech Seed, else evolve immediately via Leaf Stone)

    Koffing(level 7) → Weezing(level 35)

    Rhyhorn(level 7) → Rhydon(level 42)

    Staryu(level 7) → level 27(Recover + Water Stone)

    Magikarp(level 10) → Gyarados(level 20)

    Omanyte(level 7) → Omastar(level 40)

    Kabuto(level 30) → Kabutops(level 40)

    Dratini(level 10) → level 50(Hyper Beam + Evolution) → Dragonite(level 55)

The above would probably take me 100 hours(or more) given that I have to raise three Slow XP Pokemon to level 50+ before I can evolve them. That will take me forever without Rare Candies.

Once I 100% the Dex, then rolling through E4 + Blue would be inconsequential since id have every TM at my disposal, have EV's above the floor for EV items and my PP maxed.

If you ever play Red, Blue or Yellow, the following Guide is extremely useful: Yellow guide it details the Pokemon of every Trainer(including their stats!) and what route has what Pokemon to catch. The trainer info is invaluable for glitch catches since you can get Pokemon earlier if you put in the effort to bring them up to speed.

When you have played a game as much as me, it's 2nd nature. Might finish my latest Echoes of Wisdom run that I had forgotten about.
