Flamethrower TM doesn't exist in Gen 1. There is Fire Blast though and I don't know why anyone would down vote when I'm just voicing my opinion that is purely based on a playthrough, not PvP. PvP is an entirely different animal and if given that option I'd probably do Scyther but not be compelled to use it. Normal types are strong because of their versatility and the fact Body Slam is broken beyond measure. Psychic types are still strong though.

Beedrill inherits Poison Sting from Weedle. Also inherits Harden via Kakuna at level 7(and only level 7) and then has its normal level up set when evolving at level 10. Toxic was the lone Poison TM in Gen 1, hence why it's the lone Poison type move it can be taught. I just wish it didn't have to go until level 20 to get Twin Needle, much less 30 for Pin Missile. It does get Agility, which is pretty good if you can set one up due to the Badge boosts. Problem is whether you can survive to use it(45 Special…). Normal type options were Swift(solid), Double Edge(recoil) and Hyper Beam(great if you got a KO) along with Mega Drain as a recovery option. Wish it'd get Leech Life.

Scyther
To be frank, it's the only Gen 1 Bug in Unite...

Caterpie
Caterpie's line is one of the most well designed, from the actual names to the metamorphosis... and in the series the classic goodbye.

Hmm, your right. Having had Yellow version, I just assumed they were similar and glitch catching Weedle on Yellow spawns it in at level 7 unless I do another step to change the spawn level(and it's more hassle than I'd like). As such, I assumed they missed out on Harden by being above the level they'd learn it at but apparently they don't learn it at all. Same for Metapod on Red/Blue apparently unless my source is incorrect(Yellow version Metapod learns Harden at level 7 but they have Red/Blue not learning it at all if evolving from Caterpie). Even after 25 years you learn something new.
