Is the mega meta just downright awful gameplay in the live game or in real life too?
I've played the live game on and off for the last year or so just trying to enjoy the game with some fun combos with pokemon I grew up with as a kid.
At this point with this mega meta spam though? The gameplay is downright awful. These characters with over 300 HP, some that can be gimmicked up to 500HP, just ruin the game. That's before mentioning the wally card that can heal them entirely, that should never have existed. The obvious problems are mega greninja, starmie, and froslass to name a couple. Nearly every greninja deck gets a rare candy and can evolve turn two. Nearly every starmie deck has starmie by turn two. All three of them can act with a single energy to do deal enough damage to knock out most, if not all pokemon that are not stage 2 within 2-3 turns.
(I know there is another thread identifying the game breaking RNG issues the live game experiences, which significantly plays into why the mega deck spam is even viable.)
I don't play in real life, although I have been tossing around the idea of just trying at some point. But, if this is the manner of gameplay and the majority of players are using it? Why would I want to waste my time playing against such poorly balanced characters?
Are people really just conceding and losing within 2-3 turns in real life with this consistency? Or is it really all just how bad the RNG is? There needs to be a separate ranked playlist where mega cards are not allowed.

Not all games end in 2 or 3 turns... and it has been like this for ages, whether it's irl or online.
Now we have Mega ex, but the previous eras were basically the same trend... with regular ex, VStar, VMAX, VUNION, Tag Team GX, old Mega EX, old EX... nothing really groundbreaking about the current era.

In real life, people just accept and recognize the game is over after 3 turns or so frequently?
It really seems like it is up to the players to organize their own rules to prevent broken metas from being used at local tables then. Of course, I have experienced other games where the player groups have to completely move away from what the devs are doing to keep the game enjoyable so that isn't unfamiliar territory.
Like just now, i experienced the dragapult (320 HP) deck. Can do 260 total damage with 2 energies and that's all the effort the player has to do. I like to use Ethan's Typhlosion (only 170 HP), Ethan's Ho-oh (230 HP), and Ethan's Magcargo(only 130 HP). Typhlosion requires up to 4 turns of using Ethan's adventure to reach 280 damage, Ho-oh needs 4 energy for 160 damage and some healing (9 times out of ten nothing else gets healed unless there is an opponent with mukidori spam), and Magcargo needs to get 5 energies on it to get to 350 damage. There is a lot of effort and strategy that goes into playing those cards.
Then I seen a Mega Starmie evolve on turn 2 with 1 water energy and it is killing everything. Then by turn 3 I see Greninja and whether it is EX or mega it is killing anything. The game has become severely imbalanced with the HP ranges in the recent releases.

Just to follow up, I have been able to play quite a bit today. Every single game that a player has a mega pokemon in their deck, they get it by turn two and are able to bring it into play with the needed number of energies attached. The one exception is if SOMEHOW they don't get the rare candy (which happens far less often).
