New battle type
I was wondering about a new type of battle, where you only had pokemon and energy cards. No trainers at all. And only basic energy. I imagine it would clear out alot of the so-called expert players, as most are not engaging in pokemon battles…but instead are fighting trainer card battles. They rarely beat you with stronger pokemon, rather they win through card trickery. Sure, it's legal, but I want to fight actual pokemon, not a gang of trainers. Any thoughts on the viability of such a battle type being popular?

Why would it not be popular? Is there really that many that cannot function without trainer cards? I think of them as crutches for folks who can't build strong decks.

You must be joking, that sounds like an incredibly boring game mode.
Trainer cards make the game more dynamic and consistent, so it wouldn't be about strong decks at all... it would just be a pure game of luck to see who draws an energy card first or the right evolution... zero strategy and I don't see how would that be fun or popular to play at all.
