Why did Ash never catch a Legendary Pokémon? What if he did?

I’ve always wondered… why has Ash never caught a Legendary Pokémon? He met so many of them, like Ho-Oh, Latias, Solgaleo, and even had super strong bonds with them. Some of them even trusted him more than any Trainer! So it’s strange how not even one was ever officially caught. Is it because the writers didn’t want him to be too powerful? Or because they wanted to keep him “normal” for the journey? Maybe they’re saving it for later? Like imagine if in the future — maybe in a movie or a return special — Ash finally catches Koraidon or Lugia or something epic like that! Would that break the anime rules, or finally be the reward he deserves after 25+ years? What do you think?
