If you use the ability you must draw 2 cards. The text in the card could have been better written indeed, something like this would be more clear: "You must discard an Energy card from your hand…1 -

If you got the shield visual effect when attacking, there's something preventing damage. Like 10types said, you can't scream tail Teras1 -
