The franchise’s most iconic figure Pikachu is a representation of Shinto’s Raiju. All done from the greatest respect as Pokémons creator Satoshi Tajiri religious beliefs align with the cultural and spiritual traditions native to Japan, broadly reflecting a secular or Shinto-Buddhist worldview. This is why kami—spirits inhabiting nature, weather, and physical objects—heavily influences overall Pokémon design philosophy.
