Greetings Pokémon TCG Live Community,
With the final expansions now in the rearview mirror, we are on the eve of saying goodbye to the Scarlet & Violet series. It was a series that shook the Pokémon Trading Card Game to its core with exciting mechanics such as Tera Pokémon ex, Paradox Cards, the return of ACE SPEC, and even the takeover of Team Rocket!
But while we approach the end of the memorable Scarlet & Violet era, we're also excited to welcome the triumphant return of Mega Pokémon with the first expansion of the newest Pokémon Trading Card Game series, Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution!
Mega Evolution
What else could we start with but Mega Pokémon? These powerful Pokémon cards, last seen in 2016's Pokémon TCG: XY—Evolutions expansion, are finally back with updated rules and mechanics!
Mega Pokémon ex can be Basic, Stage 1, or Stage 2 Pokémon cards, and they follow the same Evolution rules as other Pokémon ex meaning they evolve from earlier stages rather than the non-Mega versions of themselves (e.g. Mega Lucario ex evolves from Riolu). These Mega Pokémon have astounding power and HP compared to their non-Mega counterparts. As a result of Mega Pokémon ex being so powerful, they're worth 3 Prize Cards when knocked out instead of 2.
Pokémon TCG Live Mega Updates
The updates don't end there, however. Beyond the changes Mega Pokémon ex will introduce to the game itself, the Pokémon TCG Live game client will also be Evolving to celebrate the return of Mega Evolution!
- We have a brand-new lobby music track for when you are out of battle, which brings the hype of Mega Pokémon into the auditory realm. Make sure to turn up the volume!
- We're launching a new Battle Board to celebrate the powerful Mega Pokémon coming in the Mega Evolution series!
Code Cards
Pokémon TCG Live code cards, which are included in physical Pokémon TCG products, are undergoing significant changes. First off, the new art style. All code cards starting with Mega Evolution are getting a makeover featuring a brand-new Pokémon Illustration. Pikachu is the featured Pokémon for all code cards in Mega Evolution products!
To celebrate this new aesthetic, we are giving away a deck accessory set in Pokémon TCG Live! Log in any time on or after September 25, 2025, to be gifted a Deck Box, Coin, and Sleeve featuring the new Pikachu code card illustration. These items are yours to keep forever, and this giveaway will remain available indefinitely.
Distribution of Code Cards
Additionally, the products in which code cards can be found are changing, as are the contents of the code cards themselves.
- Every physical booster pack will continue to include a code card, which can be redeemed for a single booster pack in Pokémon TCG Live.
- Code cards from non-booster products will unlock more exciting rewards than equivalent products from previous Pokémon TCG expansions.
- While code cards in premium products are becoming more rewarding, we are also changing which products will receive physical code cards. Please consult product packaging before purchase to verify whether a code card is included for any Mega Evolution Pokemon Trading Card Game non-booster product.
- All code cards from sets prior to Mega Evolution will continue to function as before, with no changes to the redemption process or rewards granted in Pokémon TCG Live.
Rewards and Offers
Battle Pass
- The Battle Pass for Mega Evolution will once again feature 100 tiers, just like the Battle Pass for Scarlet & Violet—Black Bolt and Scarlet & Violet—White Flare.
- Each tier has unique rewards so that every tier is exciting as you climb your way up to the top!
- Deluxe drops for extra rewards will be granted upon reaching certain milestones.
- Every player who logs in during Mega Evolution will get a Mega Lucario ex deck, and all players who reach tier 50 in the Battle Pass will also receive a Mega Gardevoir ex deck. There's even a deluxe drop in the Battle Pass with a set of new cards that you can use to optimize both decks to their full potential!
- For more information about these decks, check out our Mega Evolution Battle Pass Deck Strategies article.
- The rate at which you gain XP will remain unchanged from Scarlet & Violet—Black Bolt and Scarlet & Violet—White Flare, making it more accessible for all players to complete the Battle Pass.
Competitive Updates
- Ranked Ladders
- As we continue to adjust our Ranked Ladder experience to be the best that it can be, we are reducing the number of ranks that some players fall when a new Ranked Ladder begins. Starting from the current August 2025 Ladder, players now drop a maximum of 8 full ranks when a Ladder turns over.
- This means that players who have reached Master League, for example, will start the next Ladder off from the Gardevoir rank of Great League, as opposed to being returned to the bottom of Quick League. Players in the Gardevoir rank of Great League and below will continue to drop to the Pikachu rank of Quick League, and the Nest League will be unaffected by this change.

- Trainer Trials
- The Mega Evolution series will kick off with Mega Singleton Showdown on September 25, 2025, followed by the return of Gym Leader Challenge starting October 9, 2025!
Upcoming Campaigns
- From September 25 to October 23, 2025, we are holding our "Mega Live" campaign in celebration of both the Mega Evolution expansion release and the launch of the new series in the Pokémon Trading Card Game! Pokémon TCG Live will also be Mega Evolving with a new music track and mega colorful Battle Board, as well as the addition of new catchphrases, deck accessories, avatar clothes, and plenty of rewards to earn as you play!
- Pokéween 2025 begins October 23, 2025, so get ready to celebrate the spooky side of the Pokémon TCG with plenty of ghosts and ghouls! The Battle Board will be putting on a new costume, and your player's avatar can participate as well with a new ghost-themed set of clothes. You won't even need to leave your house to trick-or-treat, as we've got you covered with a variety of gifts and the release of a fun new Trainer Trials challenge!
