I think the consolidation makes sense since both Psychic and Fairy both have "magical" elements to them. But I will say I don't really know why they decided to eliminate the type.1 -

Who was your favorite and least favorite of Ash’s traveling companions in the anime? For me, favorite is Dawn- she served as a nice peer for Ash, and I might just have a bit of nostalgia for the Sinn…1 -
