I agree with @UnovanZorua, while it might be less harmful if you're in a large country, many countries would give the person's house away within a few miles, or less.

What Pokemon were you trying to retreat? I need name and expansion. What energy were attached? what tool (if any) was attached to your active? What did the opponent have in play? and what stadium (if any) was in play? I need you to answer these so I can figure out what's happening.

When a Pokemon moves from the active to the bench, all non-damage effects are removed, this includes Iron Leaves' effect that prevents it from attacking the next turn. The game is working as intended.
