Are you sure there wasn't another effect in play? Path to the Peak is a card that is commonly played that will disable Abilities for Pokémon with a rule box. All V Pokémon like Zamazenta V and other Vs and VMAXes have a rule box stating that you take additional cards when they are knocked out.

The ability only activates once at the time Mimikyu V is played from the hand. It creates an effect on Mimikyu V. An effect is not the same as an active ability so Canceling Cologne has no effect because it removes the ability, but the effect it created remains. This is a correct interaction.
