Linux Support

I'm honestly a bit surprised that I'm the first one to ask this question here, but will there be any official Linux support for the Pokémon TCG Live?

I'll make a few points here to argue why there should be:

  • There are many more Linux users than it appears. Many Linux users have already been playing the TCG online via Wine or other means, even though there was not an official Linux binary.
  • Linux is gaining more popularity. The Steam Deck is an excellent argument for this - it already sold 1.62 million units in 2022 alone.
  • Distributing for Linux would make the game more accessible to lower-income and disadvantaged groups. Although most laptops and desktops ship with Windows preinstalled, some older laptops just can't handle the strain. Linux support would allow users to play the game on lower-end hardware because of how lightweight it is.

I understand that publishing a binary for another platform can be a little tricky, and if this is not possible I would be curious to know why from a technical standpoint.

Hi, I would also be happy to see more native Linux support as you would be. But let's be honest comprade to the Apple and Microsoft platforms, Linux is still a small percentage.

I think porting a game to another platform is of course an effort by itself, but from my experience as a developer a lot of effort can also go into debugging issues for specific platforms. This binds ressources, which could be use for something else.

I have more hope of a proper Proton + Wine support on Linux, so the app runs smoothly rather than a native linux port.

They can't even get the game working on existing platforms. Maybe in 10-15 years the team will be able to handle that.
