Should the mainline Pokemon games become more Shin Megami Tensei-like?

I think if the Pokémon games leaned more into a more serious tone like SMT4 or SMT:SJ it would be better received with the older audience of Pokemon fans.

Battle-wise I felt Legends Arceus was pretty close to that with the universal stat buffs and the alternative turn order system.

If I'm in the mood for a monster-tamer RPG with a more serious tone I play Megaten. I don't play mainline Pokemon for dark and dreary stories, I play them for lighthearted fun. A lot of the 'pokemon but dark'-esque games and edgy fangames just don't hit the same.
A more mature or personal story like what Black/White and Sun/Moon did is fine, but I don't think that grimdark really fits with Pokemon aesthetically.
