Mega evolution was a big mistake

Despite being one of the coolest things in the series, adding overpowered evolutions to already good Pokemon was a big mistake. The process of choosing which Pokemon got them was 99% favoritism and 1% balance (looking at you Charizard). Are you glad they stopped making megas or should of they kept going?

Well luckily Game Freak agrees which is why they weren't in Gen 8 or Gen 9 (they even took out Ash-Greninja for Gen 9).

I liked Megas, though some of them should've just been normal evolutions for things like Glalie, Sableye, and Mawile.

My favorite regional gimmick was probably Z-Moves; everything having an option for a one-time nuke, a much needed coverage move, or one of the dozens of creative status z-moves was awesome.

They should have balanced them around weaker Pokemon.

But I suppose casual players wouldn't be interested in them since none of their favorite popular mons would get Mega Evolutions.

I think that megas were fine but also that some of them were a bit overdesigned. Not sure about their viability or balance since I don't play competetive.

They should keep making Megas, but keep it to stuff that needs the boost. Delcatty, Luvdisc, Huntail, that sort of thing.

honestly their designs are neat but if you compare a mega gardevoir to a mega rayquaza’s design and say they share the same gimmick to a non pokemon fan that’s like giving a stranger a regular steak and an authentic wagyu steak and say they came from the same pile of cows

I think Megas are nice in spirit (and haven't really cared for any other gimmicks since), but I think a lot of them could've either been actual evolutions or just form changes (similar to like Meloetta or Deoxys) where you had an option in battle to power a single one up which would unlock the changed stats/abilities while just type and appearance would change otherwise.

I think they'd also be more versatile then too.

It just kind of sucks to see some really neat designs get fully side-lined due to this which is my biggest disappoint with it.

Mega Evolution was pretty great but I do feel like it led to Gamefreak needlessly trying to reinvent the concept again but different every gen, which I don't think any of them except maybe Z moves were able to really stand on their own.

Seriously gigantimax was basically just "not mega evolution"
