@D-ManBlue Blast has to be my favorite. I only ever played the 3DS games (Blast and World) and I have to say that World is literally built with micro-transactions in mind.

I think the main thing is that the Kalos arc of the anime is considered one of the best while the Unova arc is considered one of the worst. Since most Pokemon fans simply watch the anime, that's probably where this comes from. In terms of the games, Black and White, and especially their sequels, are held to a higher regard…

And “typed” gyms can be used to teach other mechanics. Raihan is a dragon type gym leader, but he uses a sandstorm team in double battles, both of which are otherwise rarely seen, if ever.
