My head cannon is that The Beginning - Ruby and Sapphire is one Ash, while I Choose You - the final season are another alternate Ash. Sure it’s an inconsistent theory since he knows Misty and Brock in the final seasons, whilst not meeting them in I Choose You, but I refuse to believe that the BW/XY/SM/etc Ash is the same…

Well mainly the old Lugia/archeops (though quite frankly I’m pretty burned out on the Lugia card in general) I haven’t encountered the newest build yet, though I hope it’s a little less popular. I personally enjoy battles more against unique decks.
